Jim Mcevilly, LMSW

Clinical Social Worker offering individual therapy, consultation, community trainings, and supervision.

Services

Individual Therapy

I offer 45 and 55 minute therapy sessions to individual clients. My work focuses on supporting individuals who are navigating the impacts of trauma, experiences of sexual and gender-based violence, anxiety, depression, grief, life transitions, relationships, while working with clients to develop skills and perspectives that support their individual wellness. I have specialized training in Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) and I also utilize motivational interviewing, psychoeducation, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and strength-based engagement. All the work I do is trauma-informed and seeks to address the incredible impacts societal marginalization/discrimination can have on each person, based-off of their individual intersecting identities.

Supervision

Supervision for limited licensed social workers seeking full-time licensure. Social work is an inherently collaborative profession and I welcome the opportunity to support my social work colleagues in attaining the licensing credentials that allow them greater flexibility and freedom to engage in impactful work. Please contact me directly for additional information and availability.

Community Workshops & Trainings

I offer workshops to community groups, organizations, and businesses. Training topics include, but are not limited to, introductions to utilizing Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), restorative justice, implementing trauma-informed practices, violence prevention, bystander intervention, and individual/societal impacts of masculinity socialization.

Restorative Justice Resolution Services

Human beings cause harm and historically our society has provided limited options in responding when harm is experienced. Restorative justice focuses on engaging the harmed party, the individual who caused harm, and/or impacted community members in resolving impact. Resolution typically focuses on recognizing that harm has been experienced and seeking to restore harm to the extent possible, recognizing it may be impossible to ever fully restore harm. The Restorative Justice facilitator’s role is meant to be a multi-partial practitioner who engages in supporting all parties in reaching a mutually-agreed upon resolution. Please contact me for additional information and availability.

Masculinity Group Dialogue

The socialized expectations and messages masculine-identified individuals (trans men, cismen, gender-expansive individuals who identify with a masculine-gender expression) receive over their lifetime can have profound impacts on their individual lives, those they are in relationships with, and the community at large. Research has shown that masculine identified individuals struggle with substance use, die by suicide, report fewer meaningful and supportive relationships, and are more likely to perpetrate various forms of violence compared to individuals of other gender identities. These various impacts have been directly linked to the gender-expectations and message masculine individuals receive within society.

The Masculinity Group Series focuses on providing a space for masculine-identified individuals to learn more about masculinity, explore their own masculine identity, and receive support in developing a masculine identity that is authentic, individualized, and supports individual wellness. The Masculinity Group Dialogue utilizes intra-group dialogue, media, and individual reflection. The Masculinity Group Series is a 10 session series that meets weekly and is offered on a quarterly basis (fall, winter, spring, & summer). Please contact me with questions or to sign up for the next Masculinity Group Series.
